Love, Life and Sleep
The only time I seem to have for myself is the 15 minutes between washing my face and hopelessly falling asleep (thankfully) in my bed. So, I have about 12 minutes left of wakefullness. I better type quick.
As I've said before, marriage is hard. Like, really hard. Anyone who tells you other wise is full of... well, you know what. It is hard but it is also good. Every morning I wake up next to a broken man and that poor fella wakes up to an equally broken woman. We are both stubborn and always right. Yet somehow, we make it through the day to find ourselves back in that bed with our "other half" and we do it all over again trying to be a little less broken the next day. Him rolling his eyes as my plea to make the bed after he gets up (again) and me shaking my head at his request to pack an apple instead of an orange for his (already packed) lunch.
But if you're single and have managed to continue reading, I say this to you, live your life. Live the life you have right now. Enjoy that space in your bed to sprawl out or not make the bed or eat in bed or have the blankets you love instead of compromising on a thinner version and enjoy the quiet or snore without the worry of keeping your bed-sharer awake. This is the time in your life when you can enjoy your bed just as you like it. This is your chance to sleep selfishly. Being single is hard but it is also good. I wish I had the wisdom when I was single to enjoy it more while I had it. Not saying that it would have taken away my longing for a life-long companion but I would have not wished it away so quickly. When we're single all we see is our singleness because for many that is mostly all we've known. But there is so much more to be said of being single.
I love being married for countless reasons. I also loved the freedom I had when I was single. To everything there is a flip-side. So enjoy the side you're blessed to have so when you get the flip, it's all the sweeter. I am a firm believer that we're where we need to be and when it's time for something else, we'll find it.
So enjoy your sleep tonight next to the the one you love or sprawled out at an angle thinking about them. Tonight is yours, enjoy it.
